India's compound archers endured a difficult start to the elimination rounds at the Antalya World Cup (Stage 3), with early individual exits taking some shine off a strong qualification campaign.
Sahil Jadhav, who had been India's standout in men's qualification, was edged 145–147 by Mexico's Juan Gutierrez in the round of 64. The men's field also lost Rishabh Yadav at the same stage, while in the women's draw Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep were both eliminated early. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who led the Indian effort in women's qualification, carried the team's hopes into the later rounds.
The team events remained India's strongest suit at this stage. The men's compound trio of Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru and Kushal Dalal advanced from qualification, as did the women's team of Vennam, Taniparthi and Pradeep, with Jadhav and Vennam pairing up for the mixed-team competition.
Qualification scores have rarely been India's problem in compound — converting them across five match ends is the remaining step, and it was the theme of the week in Antalya.
